Today for review I've got another PC
case from our friends at Xclio, this one is called the Nighthawk.
This case features modular hard drive bays that can be moved, or
removed and can support up to eight of them. The Nighthawk also
features fans that can be controlled so you can adjust their speeds,
and those fans have plenty of LEDs to brighten up your day. So read
on to learn more...

Input Devices-Mice, Keyboards etc

With
the release of the Intel Atom processor, Home Theater PCs (HTPC) are
becoming more affordable and thus more common place. One
complication in using a HTPC is how to control the system from the
comfort of one’s couch. Using a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse is
one such system but can be rather bulky and unwieldy. Today’s
review item is capable of replacing the mouse and keyboard combo with
one small device that fits in the palm of one’s hand. It is the
called the Navigator from a company called – GlideTV.
The
GlideTV Navigator works with PCs, Macs and PS3s and allows these
devices to be controlled using just one thumb. It features a
touchpad with core function buttons, media buttons and eight
additional buttons around the perimeter of the touchpad. All these
features can help reduce the need for a keyboard in the HTPC setup.
So
let’s take a closer look at this neat little device.

We're going to be doing Xbox360 Game reviews here on DragonSteelMods but our Wii Game reviews will be on my other site called Wii Digest.
Our first review is of Ju-On: The Grudge: Haunted House Simulator, so stop over and check it out.
http://wiidigest.com/2010/01/02/review-ju-on-the-grudge-haunted-house-simulator/
Quote: "For review today I have JU-ON: The Grudge : Haunted House Simulator.
This game is loosely based on the movies of the same name, and their
original Japanese counterpart. I like horror and the Grudge was a
decent scary movie so I was a bit excited about a game based on it. The
basic idea is that you play one of the characters in the game, it’s
sort of a first person shooter, but there’s not shooting involved,
you’ve got a flashlight and that’s it. The game takes place in
different locations with you trying to escape with your life basically
in each one. it does have some actual scary moments where you’ll jump,
but the controls are horrid to the point that the game is no long any
fun." Write Comment (0 comments) |

CPU Coolers

Happy New Year everyone! It's a new
year and I've got a new review for you!
Today for review I've got the massive
Noctua NH-D14 CPU Cooler. I'm testing it on my Intel Corei5 750 CPU
both at stock speeds and with an overclock. I don't have many other
Socket1156 coolers on hand so I've put it up against two other Noctua
coolers and one from Cooler Master for comparison.
This cooler is massive, it's pretty
much the largest one that I've looked at ever, at those that are air
coolers. There are of course larger specialized cooler like TEC and
water, but the NH-D14 is one humongous air cooler that performs very
well! Read on...

It's Christmas Eve, yes we celebrate
Christmas, but for those of you that don't or are part of the
politically correct crowd out there, have a Happy Holiday, to
everyone else have a Merry Christmas!
Today for review I've got a rather
unique mouse, one that you can wash with soap and water! It's a
product that might be considered a gimmick, but it comes from a
rather well known company. Actually it's two products the Washable
Travel Mouse and Pouch Pad from Belkin. Since it's washable there's
no scroll wheel for obvious reasons, it's been replaced by a unique
touch sensitive strip. So continue on to learn more about it...

Yesterday I posted my review here of the Thecus N2200 NAS box.
Today I posted a NAS Box Roundup over at TestFreaks. So here's the info about that so you can see how the Thecus N2200 and others compare to each other:

Title: Network Attached Storage Comparison – 8 Tested and Compared @ TestFreaks
Link: http://www.testfreaks.com/blog/information/network-attached-storage-comparison-8-tested-and-compared/
Quote: "Today I’ve gathered eight different NAS boxes for comparison. They range from four drive boxes down to single drive ones. The brands I’ve collected are a sampling from Seagate, Thecus, Synology and QNAP. These companies are the biggest and most popular NAS box providers out there, and the ones I have represent low end to high end versions for both home or personal use up to higher end feature packed boxes. It's been a while for an update here,
but I promise I've got a lot of stuff coming up for review here,
including Xbox360 games now as well. We've got accessories, coolers
and games up for review. Life though sometimes interferes with our
plans to do much of anything and that's what's going on lately, my
life is just a bit hectic especially with the holidays. So stay tuned
for more good stuff from us...
Network Attached Storage or NAS boxes
are the future of storage. Personally I don't even really use
external hard drive anymore for my backups in favor of a NAS box or
two. NAS boxes are just so much more useful, you can do much more
than backup files. They can easily replace an external portable hard
drive since you can connect right from the internet to get your files
if need be. With a NAS you don't have to take anything with you, just
connect remotely to access your files. NAS boxes are much more than
that though, they can be used as a webserver, FTP server, and even a
media server. The majority of them out there are very easy to setup
and pretty much everyone with any level of computer knowledge will be
able to access and share files via the NAS web interface. I love my
NAS boxes, they allow me to access my files from virtually anywhere
in the world. They also let me share my pictures etc with everyone on
my network and eve my friends across the country or the world. With a
NAS box I now don't have to worry about file size limitation for
emails, if someone needs to send me a file or press kit or whatever
they can just access my NAS and upload it directly to me.
It's been a while since any of Thecus
products have graced our site, but today I've got one of their newest
ones the N2200. It's a two bay NAS box that can use both 2.5” and
3.5” hard drives. The designed is different than other Thecus
products I've reviewed before, it's aesthetically pleasing, it's got
small size and it's easy to use. The N2200 can be plenty of things
for you like a webserver, ftp server, iTunes server, standard media
server and several more things as well. It's a feature rich product
that not only looks great but performs fairly well. So read on to
learn more and see how it compares to my Seagate BlackArmor NAS220
box...

Pc Cooling Related

Keeping a computer cool is an important
part of owning one, but keeping it cool requires fans and many times
those fans can be quiet loud. Personally I like to keep my case cool,
but I don't like having a loud computer at all, especially my home
theater PC. Who wants to listen to fans running when you're watching
a movie? No one, that's who!
Today for review I've got a pair of new
fans from Noctua, they're called the NF-P14 FLX fans. They're 140mm
fans making them fairly large of course, these 140mm fans are special
in that they have round frames. The round frames make the fan
essentially smaller, or at least the frame is smaller. The mounting
holes in the frame will fit where any 120mm fan will fit, thus the
end user can easily replace a 120mm fan with a 140mm fan for even
more cooling ability. You can use the NF-P14 though in a 140mm space
since Noctua has included adapters to help you do this. So read on to

Power Supplies
|

Nov 27, 2009 at 06:43 PM |

Happy Day After Thanksgiving to you, or
maybe Happy Black Friday!
Have you ever lost the power supply for
you laptop or netbook? They can be rather expensive to replace can't
they? Have you ever thought it would be great to have a spare power
supply, maybe so you can leave one at home and one at the office so
you didn't have to carry one with your everywhere? Do you have more
than on laptop or netbook, and maybe you're thinking it might be nice
to have one power supply for all of them? Well, the product I've got
today for review can help with all of the above concerns.
Today for review I've got the NB S90
power supply from FSP group. This power supply isn't your normal PSU
though, it's meant for laptops and can be used with netbooks as well
if need be. It's not just meant for any one single product though, it
features several tips that let it work with many different brands and
models of laptops and netbooks. The NB S90 can replace a lost power
supply, or be used as a spare, or second, or even be used to power a
few different laptops you've got so you'll only need to carry one
with you. It's easy to use, just swap the tips and plug it in...

NZXT
products have rarely disappointed us at Dragonsteelmods and today’s
PC case continues this pleasant trend. The Guardian 921 is a gaming
chassis designed with form and function in mind while maintaining a
budget price. Eschewing the boxy beige box shape, the Guardian 921
features numerous curves and angle to make the case stand out.
The
Guardian 921 is a steel case in a mid tower configuration. If you
are looking for a light aluminum case to carry to LAN parties, this
is not the one for you. But if your goal is to have a rugged sexy
looking gaming PC then the Guardian 921 fits the bill.
Peripherals
are easily accessible via a side panel which includes E-SATA,
Intel HD audio output/input, and two USB connections. NZXT keeps
things cool with three 120 mm fans and allows for plenty of room for
expansion with nine drive bays.
So
let’s take a closer look at the Guardian 921 and see how this
gaming PC case performs.

A little while ago I looked at the
Thermaltake BlacX hard drive docking station, today I've got what
might be considered an upgrade to that, the BlacX Duet, The main
difference between the original and this version is that Duet can
hold, and allow you access to two hard drives at once time. This make
life much easier when transferring files between two drives. The Duet
can handle both 2.5” and 3.5” SATA drives and features both USB
and eSATA interfaces. So read on...
