Multi-monitor setups are very common
today because people have learned that you can be more productive
with them, but sometimes, especially with laptops it's not very easy
to attached another display. Most laptops only have a VGA output, but
what if you wanted to output to DVI or even HDMI? Most likely you'd
have to go buy adapters for your laptop and that could be quite
expensive. There is another solution though, and an easier one, using
your USB port you can use Displaylink to add another monitor to your
computer of laptop, or even output to your TV.
Today for review I've got the USB 2.0
VGA / DVI / HDMI multi-display Adapter from USBFever, this little
device allows you to use your USB port and connect you desktop or
laptop to either DVI, VGA or HDMI enabled monitors and TVs. It's
based off the Displaylink chipset, it's easy to use, and it offers the user an easy way to add a display.
This product though is much more than
just to add another monitor to your system, this can be great for
work, let's say you want to use your laptop for a presentation, but
the screen is a bit too small. With this product you can connect to
virtually any TV, most newer TVs today come equipped with HDMI, DVI
or VGA inputs, it's much nicer showing a presentation on the big
screen.

We've reviewed quite a few Noctua
products here in our time, and they're one of my favorite companies
actually, and for good reason, they make quality products that
perform very well. I'm running a Cooler
Master Black Label PC case, and I've swapped all of the fans out
for Noctua fans, the reason being is that they're quiet and they
perform well.
Today for review I've got another 120mm
fan entry from Noctua, it's called the NF-S12B FLX, the FLX meaning
flex, or that it can be run at variable speeds. I've put the NF-S12B
FLX up against several other fans I've got on hand, including Noctua
ones, and it performs admirably well.

Kingston recently introduced the HyperX
Fan to compliment their HyperX line of ram, but it can be purchased
separately for use with any ram, and they were kind enough to send
one over for review. Normally this kind of thing is not very useful
really, in my experience with ram coolers they tend not to work very
well, but the HyperX Fan is truly an exception. The HyperX Fan works,
and works very well, it's easy to install and the bright blue LEDs
will add a bit of color to your case. So read on to check it out and
learn just how well it performs...

Today I figured why not take a look at
another Thermaltake product, this time it's a fan, while it might not
be as exciting as the BlacX I looked at yesterday, it's still a good
product. The fan is a new design by Thermaltake, they took cues from
other companies and basically re-designed this fan from the ground
up. It's called the ISGC 12, and it features a unique fan blade
design to keep things quiet but yet promotes good airflow, it also
features an in-line speed controller and comes with silicone
fasteners to further keep things quiet. I've put the ISGC up against
three other fans I've got on hand for comparison, so read on to see
how the Thermaltake stacks up...

Last week I took a look at the Kingwin
EZ-Dock2, and I found it to be a decent product
overall but it had one fault where it didn't support to the hard
drives very well, other than that it's a good little product. Today
for review I've got another HDD dock, the BlacX from Thermaltake. The
BlacX supports both 2.5” and 3.5” SATA drives and features both
USB and eSATA interfaces, in my time with I found it to be a great
choice if you're in the market for an HDD dock. So read on to learn

Today for review I've got a product
that I'm not so sure about... It's of The Core Cord Organizer from CableOrganizer.com,
and while it might be a useful little gadget, I still think it's a
relatively pointless one. On the other hand, there might be people
out there who have a use for it and think that it's a great product.
For what it is it works as it should, but meh, I don't know, it's one
of those products that is just there, one of those ones that I really
don't think we need...

Does your PC
sounds like a Boeing Jet? Then today’s review item should
definitely pique your interest. NZXT, one of the best PC case
designers around were kind enough to provide Dragonsteelmods with
three of their premier PC cases. Previously I reviewed the Zero 2,
today I will be looking at case number two – the NZXT Whisper.
This full tower steel case is designed with silence in mind. It
features 10mm noise dampening foam pads, rubber grommets for the hard
drives and a padded PSU holder. Obviously, all this is done with
silence in mind.
Besides being
very quiet, the Whisper case also provides maximum room for
expansion. In addition it has room for nine hard drives and six
5.25” bays. Silent operation and roominess are not the only
features of the Whisper; NZXT also threw in plenty of cooling with
four fans. Two 120 mm and two 80 mm fans will help keep the system
running cool and quiet.
So lets listen
and see if the NZXT Whisper lives up to its name.

There's a plethora of choices when I
comes to bluetooth headsets, with more being added on a monthly basis
to those choices. The new laws in many areas that have been enacted
have forced consumers to go handsfree and that means big money for
headset makers so it seems everyone is jumping on the bandwagon for
their piece of the pie. Is this a good or bad thing though? That
depends on how you look at it, in some it's good for the consumer as
it brings rise to competition and therefore lower prices in the long
run, but th bad part about it is with so many of them, not all of
them are good and worth your money.
Today for review I've got the BlueAnt
X3 Micro Bluetooth headset, and it's from our friends at The Wireless
Boys. The X3 micro has a few nice features, including and most
importantly, it is lightweight, for me that's a very important
factor. It also has a 7 hour talk time, along with a 180 hour standby
time and it includes both an AC adapter and a car charger. Being
lightweight and looking good are not much if the headset doesn't
perform though, so continue on to learn more...

Hard drive docking bays have become
relatively popular because they are a simple and useful product, but
with so many out there, companies need a way to make theirs stand out
from the rest.
Late last year I took a look at the Kingwin
EZ-Dock, it was one of the first HDD docking
stations on the market and Kingwin has since come out with a new
model the EZ-Dock2 that they've sent over for review. The EZ-Dock2 is
a dual bay dock, meaning you can use two SATA hard drives with it,
2.5” or 3.5” or a mixture of both. It also has the ability to let
the user configure RAID for the drives in the dock, either JBOD or
Big/Spanned, all done via the USB connection. So read on to learn

Games/Software Reviews

As a user of both PCs and Macs on a
daily basis I have found each platform’s OS to have certain
advantages over one another. One area where OS X Tiger beats Windows
XP and Vista is in the backup software department. Apple’s Time
Machine has become the gold standard against which all other backup
solutions are measured. The true beauty of Time Machine is that a
neophyte Mac user can plug in a USB external hard drive, click one
button and now their entire system will be backed up. Restoring
files is just as simple. In the past Windows solutions were designed
more for the experienced or power PC user than the average Windows
user such as Mom, Dad and the kids.
This last statement was true until now.
A company called Rebit has released a slew of products that perform
similar plug and backup capabilities found in OS X Tiger’s Time
Machine. In fact Rebit touts via their promotional material that
Rebit PC Backup solutions have been called Time Machine for Windows,
Time Machine for XP, and Time Machine for Vista.
Today I will be looking at the Rebit
Muli-PC software package. The Multi-PC version allows the user to
back up to six PCs. If you only need to back up a single machine,
they do offer a Single-PC version. Rebit also offers “appliances”
which are either 2.5” or 3.5” hard drives with the software
preinstalled. With the software package, you need to install it onto
your own external hard drive, but in principal it functions the same
as the appliance.
So let’s get started!

Videocards are something that have
always kind of annoyed me, it seems they're always releasing a new
one, technology that was hot a few months ago is now obsolete. Then
again, that's the way it is with most technology so I'm not sure why
it surprises me, but it, the upgrades, just seems to go much faster
with video cards.
Today for review I've got the Diamond
ATI Radeon 4870 1gig video card. As you can see be the name it
features 1 gig of ram, so I figured why not make this more of a
comparison review as in how much performance do you gain when going
from 512mb to 1gig of ram. So I put my Sapphire 4870 512mb card up
against the Diamond, both are running the same core and memory
speeds, so they're pretty much the same cards except for the on board
ram they have. So read one to find out if it's worth it to grab the
1gig over the 512mb version card...

One of the first products that I ever
reviewed for Dragonsteelmods was a laptop stand. For today’s
review I have come full circle as I am going to discuss a novel
product from a company called lightlaptopstands.com called the
Latosta Portable Laptop Stand.
It is designed to passive cool your machine while providing an
ergonomic angle to work at in a truly portable form. This is a
simple product that falls under the “why didn’t I think of that”
category.
Basically the
product is comprised of two simple metal brackets that slide onto
each side of the laptop and elevates the back of the machine off the
work surface. Imagine the flip down tabs on the back of desktop
keyboards; that is the mechanism at work with this product.
According to its
creator – Alan Starner his impetus for designing this product was
the lack of truly portability in portable laptop stands. Well the Latosta Portable Laptop
Stand couldn’t be any more portable! Let’s take a closer look.

CPU Coolers

Today for review I've got a good
looking and rather large CPU cooler, the Thermaltake Duo Orb. Having
such a large cooler in your system is nice as it works well, but
being so large I had to remove my 120mm exhaust fan for it to fit in
my case. The temps I got though are very good, read to see how it
compared to several others I've got on hand...
