Portable mp3 players are great for carrying large amounts of music. A large percentage of them use 1.8’ hard drives, while the smaller capacity models more commonly use flash drives. Typically the ones with the hard drives will eventually develop some sort of hard drive problem.

Fixing this problem can be costly as most replacement hard drive is usually the most expensive component to replace. Replacement hard drives start at $80 for 10 GB capacities and go up to $175 for 60 GB models. For that price you can buy a new mp3 player.

Luckily for the sake of this review, I happen to have a fourth generation ipod with a hard drive that is giving me some problems. Let’s get started…..
