Summary and Comments
I have to admit the 3-in-1 RJ45 Network / RJ11 and USB Cable Tester isn’t exactly a top of the line product when it comes to build quality. Yes it’s cheap feeling and very lightweight and the battery rattles around inside of the compartment, I would be afraid to drop it from any real height. We do have to take into account though that it only costs $7.80, so really we can’t expect it to be a high quality product.
Despite the build quality, the tester does work as it should, for the most part. For some reason the remote would not work with my two wire phones lines. Some phone lines do have more than two wires in them, but I didn’t have any handy for testing so I can’t comment on that if it would work or not. I tested what I had on hand, and could find easily.
The tester worked exactly as it should for testing USB and Ethernet cables, no issues there at all.
This tester, I think, would be fine for the average person. Personally I might find a need to test Ethernet cables maybe twice per year, so it won’t be getting a lot of work, so something this inexpensive would be fine. I don’t think I would take it out on a professional job as I honestly don’t think it would withstand the rigors of daily use of cables be connected and un-connected constantly. As I mentioned I would be afraid top drop this tester as it will most likely not survive 100% intact and still be usable.
The ability to test USB cables is a nice little bonus, but I’ve personally never had a need to test one before…
All in all, the 3-in-1 RJ45 Network / RJ11 and USB Cable Tester isn’t bad, especially if you take the price into consideration.
