Toys, toys, toys, I just love them! The smaller the better actually, and today for review I’ve got the smallest RC helicopter I’ve seen yet. It’s from our friends at TrendTimes.com and it’s called the Ultra Micro Hughes 300. The Micro Hughes 300 is very cool and lots of fun to fly around all over the place. The helicopter itself is very well made and very rugged as I crashed it many, many times while playing with it. It’s also highly detailed as well, it features a plastic body and not a styrofom body like other micro helicopters out there making it look more realistic with the many added details.

A Better Look at Things
:
The Micro Hughes 300 RC Helicopter comes in a brightly colored and informative box, in fact the instructions are on the back of the box! You can see the helicopter and the remote through the front window and the box even includes a convenient carry handle as well.
The helicopter, remote and accessories are held inside of another plastic half box inside of the main box, the only accessories included are a spare tail rotor and three thin metal sticky things.. not quite sure what they are for as they are not mentioned in the instructions. I would assume they are weights, but I could be wrong and probably are…
This little helicopter is just amazing in its detail, I really wasn’t expecting it to look this good. Last year I reviewed the Hornet3 and it had a mostly stryofoam body and that’s what I was expecting here but the Micros Hughes 300 is made of plastic with quite a bit of attention to details.
The Micro Hughes features dual blades for stability and a tail rotor to control it’s direction, but unlike large RC helicopters you don’t have to constantly adjust the tail rotor.
On the bottom of the Micro Hughes you’ll notice a large gear that is connected to a smaller gear that is in turn connected to the motor. It’s an odd system but it works well, I would have expected the motor to be connected directly to the main rotor..
Also on the bottom is where you’ll find the charging port and the on/off switch. There’s also a ‘C’ there as well to indicate the channel of the helicopter as the included remote can be used with three channels.
The Remote for the Micro Huges 300 is large and easy to hold in both hands. The bottom is where the battery compartment is where the six ‘AA’ batteries go, the bottom is also textured for a good grip. On the top of the remote is a red plastic casing that houses the Infrared LEDs.
The remote has two joysticks, one on the left and one on the right. The right stick controls left/right movement and under it is where the trim buttons are located. In the center of the remote is the channel selector switch, on/off switch and power/charge LED indicators. The left joystick controls power to the motor to control height and forward movement.
In the center, near bottom of the remote is a small door that slides off to reveal the charging cable that hooks to the helicopter to charge it up.

Installation, Testing and Movies:
The first thing you’ll need to do besides putting batteries in the remote is to charge your helicopter, this take about 25 minutes to give you about a 10 minutes flight time. I got about 12 minutes, and it only took about 20 minutes to charge it with new batteries.
There is a green LED indicator on the remote that lights up when the helicopter is charging and goes off when it’s done and ready to fly.
The Micro Hughes 300 has a blue LED inside of it that blinks while powered on, it’s fairly bright and looks rather cool.
Here’s a couple comparison shots of the Hughes 300 next to my Hornet3, you can see the Hughes 300 is a bit smaller than the Hornet3.
Flying the Micro Hughes 300 is fairly easy, but like any RC toy, especially a helicopter it takes a bit of practice and you must trim it to get the helicopter to fly right.
I did find that the Micro Hughes has a large right turning radius for some reason, but when I turned left it just spun around.. don’t quite understand what is going on there, basically I could only make long, wide right turns easily. When turning left it seemed very sensitive to the controls.
Being it’s an Infrared remote control you have to keep the remote aimed at the helicopter to keep the signal, that’s something that’s hard at times to remember to do…
Ok, now it’s time for the movies!
The first movies I’ve got for you is me trying to get a close up of the Hughes 300, I was trying to keep it in the frame of the camera.. kinda hard to do.
The second movie is just flying around a bit, crashing, flying around a bit more, crashing.. well you get the idea here…
and the third movie is more of the same… it really is a rugged little toy!
Here I got a little confident and brave about my flying abilities and decided to fly the Hughes 300 over the hot tub, fun-fun!
take off with the Hughes 300 is a bit difficult, I found it much easier to hand launch.
Summary:
Overall the Ultra Micro Hughes 300 RC Helicopter is a lot of fun to fly but it seems a bit harder than my Hornet3. It’s a good thing that the Hughes 300 is very durable as I crashed many times while learning to fly it.
With time and practice you can have a lot of fun with the Hughes 300, and in no time you’ll be buzzing the heads of your family and even co-workers!
