Paper shredders are a great way to protect ones privacy, and not mention creating some cheap packing material as well… There are many types of paper shredders on the market, and they all have their uses, but not many are really portable so you can shred on the go. Most paper shredders are large and cumbersome and usually include a large wastebasket, or are meant to be attached to one, I don’t know many people that carry one of those around with them.

A Better Look at Things

:

There is no fancy packaging for the USB Portable Paper Shredder from USBGeek, it comes in just a plain white box.

Inside the box we find the shredder itself wrapped in bubble wrap, a brief instruction sheet and a USB power cable.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the Portable Shredder is those metal detector wands that are in use at airports. The USB Portable Paper Shredder does have some weight to it, it feels well made and should last quite a while. There’s not much to it at all, just the slot for shredding and a rocker type button that allows you to to put the shredder in forward or reverse easily.

One nice things about this product is that it is dual-powered, on the bottom is a door that pops off allowing you to use four standard ‘AA’ batteries, and on the side s the power connection for the USB power.

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Well there’s no installation involved with the USB Portable Shredder, unless you count installing batteries or hooking up the USB connection part of the installation process…

You can fit a standard sheet of paper in the USB Portable Shredder but this can only be done by folding it in half. The size of the mouth of the shredder is actually perfect for standard mail so you can quickly and easily shred those pesky pre-approved credit card applications that we all get every other day in the mail. Since it’s widely known that identity theft is becoming more and more of a problem, spending a few seconds by shredding something like one of those credit card applications can be worthwhile. One note though is that it can’t quite handle an envelope full, you’ll have to take the contents out and shred them individually.

The USB Portable Paper Shredder does have a limited capacity, but one wouldn’t really expect it to be able to shred a large quantity of paper, usually one standard A4 sheet of paper folded in half is the maximum capacity it can shred at one time.

Shredding a single piece of paper is fast, just a couple seconds and it’s done. You won’t be using this product for any late night shredding sessions, but in a pinch it works great for small jobs.

Summary:

The USB Portable Paper Shredder from USBGeek is a very useful and well made product, it can come in handy in many situations, and being dual-powered makes it truly portable.

While the capacity of the Portable Shredder isn’t very large, it works great for small jobs where you might not have access to a standard paper shredder and it’s kinda fun to use.
