A Better Look at Things
:
As this is a downloadable game there are no boxshots for you to look at. The game only weighs in at 12.5Mb, so it won’t take anyone long to download it. You can even go and get the trial version from the Kristanix site to try it before you buy it, time limited demo, to see if you like it.

Once downloaded and installed you can click the icon on your desktop to start playing. When you click the icon the Reminder screen pops up, you can Play, Buy the Full Version or Enter your Key after you have completed purchase for the full game. Kristanix even offers a 30 day money back guarantee.
After the reminder screen the main screen pops up, you have only two options here, ‘Play’ and ‘Options’
The Options menu doesn’t give you to many options, just music volume, sound effects volume, fullscreen mode on or off and view the Highscores.

Gameplay:
Once you click play you are greeted with an opening screen that tells you what’s going on in that level and basic instructions on how to play the game.
The graphics are surprisingly good for such a small game, they appear to be actual photographs of an island somewhere.
Between level you get to go to ‘Privateer Pete’s Pirate Shop’ to purchase any of four possible upgrades. Upgraded included extra damage for your cannon blasts, making you cannon balls fly faster, the ability to fire more cannon balls successively, and you can purchase more life or damage you can withstand.
The left mouse button fires you cannon, while the right mouse button activates your shield, the shield can only withstand one hit so you need to pay attention and re-activate the shield after every time it is it.
There are bosses at the end of each level that come in different vehicles, balloons, speeding zeppelins and big pirate ships.
Gameplay Continued:
The are also various power ups you can get during gameplay, like Multi-ball, Speedball and Frenzy.
While playing blue floating balls with question marks will float by, these are the power ups, while the red ones are for bonus levels.
One of the bonus rounds is target shooting, here you shoot the little floating blue balls to get points and gold to buy upgrades.
When you are defeated the game is not quite over, you can continue to fight at the same exact place you left off, but you will go down two ranks, or you can just quit and enter your initials for the high score if you got it.
It’s a small but fun game, there really isn’t to much to it, but it’s the simplicity that makes it fun. It’s a nice diversion from work possibly.
Summary:
While Pirates of the Atlantic won’t tax your video card, it is a really cool and fun game. Sometimes it’s the simple games that are the most fun. Pirates is one of those games that you can load and start to play very quickly, as it is very small. It’s just a really cool game, go on over to the Kristanix website and get the demo to see for yourself.
DragonSteelMods gives Pirates of the Atlantic a 5 out of 5 score.
