Work, work, work, that’s all we do. Not fun, but it’s something we have to do for sure. There are things out there that make work easier and even quite possibly a bit more fun in the process. Wrike has what they call a project management app for Android that you can use with your tablet or phone to make it easier for everyone on your team to collaborate on projects that you might be working on. I didn’t know who Wrike was so I visited their site and found out that many big companies rely on their services like Paypal, MTV, Adobe and HTC, just to name a few, so they’re not just a little company.
The app lets you be more mobile and it lets you keep track of the status of projects, and even your team, no matter where you are. It isn’t just for big companies, small companies can use it as well to make life easier and to help get things done to make their business thrive. I’m in process of creating and developing an ecommerce website and, including me, there are only four of us involved in the process, and I’m finding it’s hard to get people to respond to emails. I need things to get it done on my end, but when I don’t get responses in a timely manner I can’t get the work done. There’s a time zone difference, but there also seems to be other issues, like when emails just get lost in the shuffle of everything else. I’m finding that doing this via email might not be the best way to go about it and something like the Wrike project management software might be a better way as it helps keep everything in one place and I think it would help keep people more focused and on task.
So what follows is a quick review or overview really of the Wrike Android app. I should note I haven’t actually used it for a project but I think I’m going to try it out as I do think the app has some great potential…

The Review
When you first open the app you’re greeted with the Wrike logo or title page and then the login screen for you to sign in. You can also sign in automatically with your Google+ account.
Once that’s complete you’re greeted with the Activity Stream which is of course empty until you create a new task.
Before creating a task though, up on the left side is the menu button that slides open up to show you choices for My Work, Dashboard, Stream, Folders, your team, Settings and Help. I should note there is no help included in the app itself, when you click the help button you’ll be asked to open your browser and be taken to an external website, the Wrike site. Wrike also has a YouTube channel where you can get even more help, they’ve got plenty of how-to and instructional videos for you to watch.
Under Settings you’ll find plenty of things, most of which are for notifications, but you’ll find a handy tutorial for gesture usage. The gestures help you get things done quicker and easier, basically swiping left or right and tapping.
Back to creating a task, up pops the keyboard of course and you just type the name of your task or project.
You can also quickly add comments via the bar at the bottom of the screen, like I added ‘need company logos’ and it appears under the project.
You can also create a specific folder on your device for your project to help keep things organized, just name your new folder or you can navigate to an existing folder if you want to.
One of things on my to do list was I needed company logos. You can add them via services like Box, Dropbox or Google Drive, or you can choose a file or even take a photo with the camera in your phone or tablet. You can get the file from your device or your can let the app have full access to something like Google Drive so it’s already there. Since many companies have a general cloud box where everyone can put things in or take things out, the integration makes things easier.
This is a project so of course you’ll need people assigned to it, and they make it easy. Click the ‘+people’ icon and you’ll be taken to where you can add people by name, email or right from your contact list.
Back on the main menu there is a choice for My Work which will take you to a calendar with categories for Today, This Week, Next Week, Later and Completed. This let’s you see everything going on at a glance and helps give you a good idea of timelines and when things might be due.
At the top of all the pages is a little bell icon and this is for notifications and mentions where you get alerted to new @mentions or assignments given to you in the app.
So I hope that gives you a general idea of how things work and maybe what it can do for you and your business.
