A Better Look at Things

:

There really is not much to the packaging, it is a cardboard backed hanging display style package. The mouse and pad are prominently seen through the front plastic cover. The packaging is the easy open kind, so no fighting to get at it. There’s no information on the package, none needed really…

Opening the package we find the mouse and pad, that’s it. I don’t really think instructions are necessary as it is a mouse and pad, the mouse is plug and play.

The mousepad itself, is about 1/8 thick foam material with a green semi hard plastic covering. Obviously it is in the shape of a Frog, with eyes and mouth.

The Frog mouse features three buttons, two standard left click, right click and the scroll wheel.

If you haven’t figured it out, the eyes are the left and right mouse buttons.

The Frog mouse is an optical style mouse, and it even has teflon? Feet on it to help it move better.

For what it is, it seems fairly well made, the mouse and the pad itself are very lightweight. My first impression was ‘cool, a Frog mouse’, and my kids just thought it was the greatest thing I’ve ever got for review, except maybe for the Roboraptor…

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Well installation is very easy, just plug into and available USB port, put the pad down and wait for Windows to recognize and install the mouse, all a matter of a few seconds.

The first thing is that I quickly found out that it does not track all that well with fast movements, you’re not going to be gaming with the Frog mouse. I have a few pads here as well as my desk that I tried the Frog mouse on and found that it is very picky about the surface it is on, so it won’t track on every surface.

The Frog mouse did track well on its on pad though, not wonderful, but good enough for general tasks, like navigating Windows or surfing the internet.

The button are or eyes are nice and big and respond instantly when clicked, the scroll wheel is a bit hard to access though as it is almost all the way between the eyes. My children found the scroll wheel easy to use but they have smaller fingers than I do.

In comparison to other mice, it is very lightweight, shorter and wider than other mice I own. For people with small hands this will not be a problem. The frog mouses and pad combo could make a great gift for those that have children, or for women as they tend to have smaller hands than men do.

Overall for $15 its not a bad mouse, not a great mouse either, but for that price you can’t expect Logitech quality.

Summary:

The Frog mouse and pad combo is more of a novelty item than anything. It would make the perfect children’s gift though, as my kids just loved it from the first time they saw it. The quality of the mouse is fairly good, although its tracking is somewhat poor. You won’t be playing Counter Strike or anything with the Frog mouse, but for most general uses it fairs very well.

DragonSteelMods gives the Frog Mouse and Pad combo from USBGeek a 4 out of 5 score.

Pros:

-Cool and unusual gadget

-Conversation piece

-Nice gift for adults and children

-Combo, mouse matches pad

Cons:

-Tracking not great on all surfaces

-Scroll wheel a bit hard to get to

I would like to thank USBGeek for the chance to review the Frog Mouse and Pad, and for their continued support or DSM.
