A Better Look at Things

The Hard Disk Shape 2.5″ IDE HDD Enclosure comes in a brightly colored box with a picture of the enclosure on the front and the specs on the back in numerous languages.

Inside the box we find the enclosure wrapped in bubble wrap for protection, installation guide, USB cable, software/driver disc, screwdriver and screws. The USB cable is the type with two USB connections on it to provide extra power if needed from another USB port.

The top of the enclosure itself is metal while the bottom is plastic. It feels fairly well made and lightweight. On one end of the enclosure is where we find the connection ports, an optional DC 5v jack is there as well, along with the USB connection, backup button and the indicator LED. The indicator LED lights green for power and blinks red/orange for activity.

Popping the enclosure open we find there’s really not much to look at, a small circuit board with the IDE connector is at one end. The metal top of the enclosure does has a piece of foam padding to protect the hard drive and to also hold it stable.
