Summary and Comments
The iPhone 3G is far from perfect, as Kris pointed out in his article – here, the iPhone is deprived of key features on a comparable phone. Fortunately, Apple does release Software Upgrades in which they usually add additional features.
Also, the hacking community has already “jailbroken” the latest 2.0 software allowing the use of non Apple sanctioned apps on both models of iPhone, plus, the iPhone hacking community is probably one of the largest, if not the largest cell phone hacking groups around.
The iPhone 3G is definitely a nice upgrade from the original iPhone; However, if you do not need the faster data network due to your pattern of usage or the lack of 3G availability in your neighborhood, then you can probably pass on this version.
The main differences between the 3G and the original involve the built in GPS and the 3G network, the software on both is the same, so there is very little difference between the phones in that regard.
This is definitely an incremental update on the iPhone and by no means, an evolutionary one.
DragonSteelMods gives the iPhone 3G a 4 out of 5 score.
