Installation, Testing and Comparison
Installation involves placing the iPhone into the iPhone Portable Power Station and aligning the iPhone dock connector onto the iPhone Portable Power Stations connector. Once docked, you can use the Power Station as either an external battery or a charger for your iPhone.
You can connect the iPhone charger cable to the iPhone Portable Power Station and charge the iPhone and external battery directly or just the iPhone Portable Power Station by itself.
The indicator light on the bottom left of the charger will give the status of the device. When the battery is in use, the light turns green. When the battery is being charged, the light becomes red. When the light is off, then the iPhone is using its own internal power.
It took about two and half hours for my totally drained iPhone to be fully charged with the iPhone Portable Power Station. There was still residual charge in the iPhone Portable Power Station after charging the iPhone. This is probably due to the fact that the Power Station uses a 2200 mAh battery and the iPhone has a 1400 mAh battery.
By itself, charging the iPhone Portable Power Station took a few hours.
The iPhone Portable Power Station is not perfect. The power button is recessed under the plastic and requires two quick presses to turn the device on. The unit is bulky and adds a lot of additional material to your iPhone. Also, the battery does not seem to be replaceable and there is no information about what the expected life of the iPhone Portable Power Station actually is.
However, it does work as advertised and works well.
