Power supplies are the heart of any
system, just like our hearts the power supply provides power to the
PC system, and without a solid stable power supply your system can
fail. There are many aspects or features to PSUs as well, some come
with your standard hard wired cable layout while other are modular
allowing the end user to pick and choose which connections they need
which is nice when you want or need the power but don’t need all of
the included connections hanging around.
Up on the review block today is the
Mach 1 900Watt Power Supply from Kingwin that not only looks great, but features an interesting modular
cabling system that securely locks the cables into the PSU to insure
they will not come loose. During my time with the Mach 1 I found it
to be a very quiet and exceptionally stable power supply that will
meet or exceed the demands of most high end system on the market
today.

A
Better Look at Things:
The Kingwin Mach 1 900Wattt Power
Supply comes in a very large box with lots of pictures and
information all over it listing and showing the features of the
product inside.
Included with the power supply is
a user manual, gold thumbscrews, main power cable and a clear box
with the modular cables inside.
The cables themselves are sleeved
very nicely with a covering that feels sturdy and should last quite a
long time. The included connections are:
6-pin PCI Express connector X 2
5-pin S-ATA connector X 8
8-pin (6+2 pin) PCI Express
connector X 2
4-pin peripheral power
connector X 8
4-pin floppy drive connector X1
The main power connections are
hard wired into the PSU, and basically accessories are the only
modular connections. The connector part of the cables is very unique
in that it features a metal female threaded end that screws onto the
outside of the connector on the PSU, this make for a very secure
connection.
On the bottom of the Mach 1 is a
150mm fan to keep everything cool, looking through it we can easily
see the gold heatsinks on the components inside of the Mach 1.
On the back we find the familiar
honeycomb style vent and we can see through here easily as well to
the components inside.
On the left side is where we find
the standard label listing all of the specs of the Mach 1, there is
also a UL number here that in this case doesn’t tell us too much. The
number is E197467, and that means it was made by Kingwin, but some
Kingwin PSUs are made by Super Flower as well, so at this point we’re
not sure who actually made this power supply.
The remaining power connections
are hard wired into the PSU as I mentioned, and the modular
connectors are covered by rubber caps as well to protect them from
any dust or dirt getting inside if they are not being used.
{mospagebreak title=Installation and Testing}
Installation and Testing:
I installed the Kingwin Mach 1
900watt PSU in my main system which consists of:
EVGA NF880i Motherboard
Intel C2Q6600
2x EVGA 8600GTS video cards
2x 200gig SATA drives
2x DVD/rw/dl drives
The fan of the Mach 1 is illuminated with ble LEDs that are fairly bright and shine through the conenction onteh front of the PSU makiing for an interesting effect.
So after having the Kingwin Mach 1
installed for over three weeks I’ve found it to be a very quiet PSU
that is very stable as well. I ran into no problems installing this
PSU is my case which is an Ultra M998, the cables were more than long
enough to route anywhere I needed them to go, and there is an ample
supply of connectors for most any system needs.
For testing I ran my system with
SLI enabled and ran 3dMark06 to test the load, I also ran Orthos
Stress Prime as well but in a different set of tests to make sure I
tested load on the video cards and the system.
I used my Multimeter to check the
voltages on the 12volt and 5volt rails
IDLE:
12v = 12.11v
5v = 5.09v
LOAD:
12v = 12.11-12.12v
5v
= 5.09v
During all of my testing the
Kingwin Mach 1 was extremely stable, the 12v rail fluctuated very
little at first then settled to 12.11v while under load.
Summary
and Comments:
The Kingwin Mach 1 900Watt Power
Supply is not only a well made and good looking PSU it’s very stable
and silent under the heaviest of loads.
The Kingwin Mach 1 differs from
other modular PSUs in that the cables are very securely fastened to
the connections on the power supply, you’ll never have to worry about
not getting it connected correctly or it ever coming out no matter
how much you pull on it. This in itself makes the Mach 1 stand out
from other modular style power supplies where sometimes working in
tight situation in the PC case can lead to a lose connection to the
power supply.
DragonSteelMods gives the Kingwin
Mach 1 900Watt Power Supply a 5 out of 5 score and our Recommended
Award as well.
Pros:
-Well made
-Very stable power
-Looks cool
-Lots of connections
-Very secure connections
-SLI Ready 6pin/8pin
Cons:
-None really
I
would like to thank Kingwin for the chance to review the Mach
1 900Watt PSU and for their continued support of DSM.
