OCZ seems to have their hand in quite a bit and when they put their name on a product you expect something that performs well and is of good quality, and I’ve yet to see where that is not the case.
Today for review I’ve got the OCZ Freeze Thermal Compound, when you think of OCZ you normally think of quality ram, but they are into cooling as most people know. The OCZ Freeze is another entry into the every growing lineup of instantly ready compounds, meaning they have no burn-in time required, something that I think most people appreciate greatly. Not only is the OCZ Freeze instantly ready but also non-toxic and very easy to apply. How does it stand up to others out there?

Description:
Cooling Accessories / Thermal Compound / OCZ Freeze
Using the latest innovations in thermal management compounds, OCZ Freeze has higher heat conductivity potential than leading silver-based thermal pastes on the market today, offering an ultra-reliable solution for all computing environments.
Based on a proprietary formulation of thermally conductive ingredients, OCZ Freeze can lower CPU core temperature as much as ten percent* when compared to conventional silver-based compounds that are a popular choice amongst enthusiasts. OCZ Freeze compound helps maximize overclocking results by reducing the thermal barrier between the CPU and cooler, giving you a performance edge during the toughest computing situations.
Combining low thermal resistance with high conductivity, OCZ Freeze is the premium choice for enthusiasts looking to get the maximum overclock from their CPU, and supports the stability needed to push your system to its limit.
A Better Look at Things
:
It’s thermal compound so there’s not much to look at…
The OCZ Freeze comes in the ever popular and bane of society, the plastic, hermetically sealed clamshell style package. It’s nicely done, you can see the tube of compound right on the front, with the specs and features listed on the back.
The OCZ Freeze comes in a syringe style applicator, something that I much prefer over other styles of delivery.
The OCZ Freezer compound is light gray in color and has a consistency of toothpaste.
I noticed also that while sitting on the paper as I was taking pictures it didn’t separate and soak into the paper as other compounds sometimes do. You don’t want the compound to separate at all…
Installation, Testing and Comparison
Installation is very easy, the OCZ Freeze is nice to work with, it applies and spreads easily on the CPU.
For testing I’m using the Noctua NH-U9B CPU cooler on my Intel C2D6420 CPU and I’ve put the OCZ Freeze up against my two favorite thermal compounds, Noctua NT-H1 and Arctic Cooling MX-2.
No there is no Arctic Silver 5 in the mix, the reason is the curing time involved with the AS5. (In about a month or so I’m going to be releasing my Thermal Compound Roundup in which AS5 will be included and many, many others as well, but that takes time…)
Ambient room temperature during all testing was 19C (+/- .3C), and Orthos Stress Prime was used to get load on the CPU.
Each compound was on the CPU/Heatsink for 5 days of testing everyday, running Orthos hours at a time and using CoreTemp to record the temperature measurements then averaged out.
As you can see from the results the OCZ Freeze does very well against the other two compounds.
Summary:
OCZ is known for it’s high performance products and the Freeze Thermal Compound fits right in with their product line, it’s easy to apply, non-toxic and gives great results.
The no-curing time is a nice added bonus to the other features of this product as no one really wants to wait to achieve good results.
I can honestly recommend the OCZ Freeze to anyone out there looking for something different to use with their systems, you won’t be disappointed, I wasn’t…
DragonSteelMods gives the OCZ Freeze Thermal Compound a 5 out of 5 score and our Recommended Award as well.
Pros:
-Good performance
-No curing time
-Non-toxic
-Easy to apply
Cons:
-None really
I would like to thank OCZ for the chance to review the Freeze Thermal Compound and for their continued support of DSM.
