OtterBox for iPhone (Otterbox 1940 Case) Review

Unboxing

The Otterbox 1940 Case arrives in a yellow and white box, with the Otterbox logo in the yellow half. On the white portion there is a small corner picture of the Otterbox 1940 Case and the phrase “added bump, scratch and drop protection in three languages.

The back of the box features a collage of some activities where the Otterbox case would come in handy.

The sides list the features on one side and the contents on the opposite end

Inside the package, one will find the Otterbox iPhone Case and the instruction sheet.

The Otterbox 1940 Case is composed of three layers of protection: the silicon skin, the hard shell and the belt clip/holster.

It is available in solid black or yellow and black for those Stryper fans.

The silicon skin is smooth to the touch and feels secure when held. There are various cut out areas on the outside of the skin which allows it to wrap around the hard shell.

The hard shell has three slightly protruding clips on the left and right side and one on top. The clips seal the top and bottom portions of the shell and act as anchor points for the silicon skin.

The ear piece and the speakers are covered by a thin plastic film to protect them from the elements.

The camera lens and the Apple logo are covered by a clear plastic shield. The screen area is covered by a thin membrane of clear plastic. This allows the Otterbox iPhone Case to keep the iPhone screen shielded which is different from most other iPhone cases.

The silicon skin wraps snuggly around the shell and has two tabs on the side of the skin that insert into the plastic component of the case. This helps keep the silicon shell from stretching which is seen with some other silicon cases.

There are two seals for the headphone jack and the dock connector to keep the Otterbox iPhone case truly water resistant.

The holster is made of a sturdy black plastic and features a built in belt clip than can rotate in a 360 degree circle. Although this allows the iPhone to be holstered in either a vertical or horizontal configuration, the belt clip is located near the top of the holster making the horizontal positioning seem slightly imbalanced.

Another nice feature about the clip is that is locks with firm click, so there is no concern about the iPhone rotating on your hip.
