Pepcom Holiday Spectacular New York September 19, 2007 Part II

Continuing our coverage of the 2007 Pepcom Holiday Spectacular, the next stop was at the Altec Lansing both, where they were featuring five new speaker systems.

The showcase product was the Altec Lansing inMotion iMT521 Soundblade stereo Bluetooth system which provides and full stereo Bluetooth v.2 for wireless connectivity with most A2DP stereo Bluetooth mobile phones and laptops.  Alas, the iPhone does not feature the A2DP protocol, so it is not compatibile with this system.

The next items were the iMT207 Orbit-M and iM207 Orbit-MP3, which are palm sized portable speakers.  They feature Fusion360 technology and integrates a cone design with a custom-built 40mm speaker driver to project a 360-degree sound field while weighing in at a mere 8oz. (.23kg). The Orbit is shock resistant and uses AAA batteries for up to 24 hours continuous play time.

For the Nokia fans, they have developed the iMT217 Nōbi Speaker for Nokia XpressMusic Phones.  This compact portable speaker weighs in at 10 oz and provides 24 hours of play time using AAA batteries.

The final product featured was the FX3020 SoundBar Speaker System for Flat-Panel PCs.  We have seen these types of speakers on many LCD monitors, but now you can have the Altec Lansing quality in a low profile setting.

Altec Lansings new SoundBar is a one-piece, low-profile rectangular speaker system featuring precision-angled drivers and built-in sfx (sound field expander) sound-widening technology.  XdB technology enhances bass performance. The simple design features a single in/out cable to remove wire tangles and clutter, and side-positioned auxiliary input and headphone jacks allow easy connection and access. A single knob puts all of the controls at your fingertip, including on/off volume and mute.

One of the most exciting products in the Ultra Mobile PC field is the OQO model 02.  This device provides full PC performance in a truly tiny package.  It features 1.2GHz, 1.5GHz, or 1.6GHz VIA C7M ULV processor and integrated graphics chipset together with OQO’s patented subprocessor technology on a palm-sized motherboard designed for optimal performance per watt operation. With storage drive capacities of up to a 120GB HDD, you can store all your office and multimedia files on the model 02. The model 02 is available with 1GB of DDR2 SDRAM operating at 533MHz for quick system responsiveness.

You can also choose a 32 GB Solid State HD for lightning fast performance.  The OQO model 02 features built-in wireless including EV-DO Rev. A.  An incredible package in a tiny body!!!

The other neat feature is that it can be docked and used as a desktop PC.  The docking station features multiple ports for all your desktop peripherals and connections including external monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, and wired Ethernet.   Ports included are VGA and HDMI video out, 100Base T Ethernet, 3.5 audio jack, 3 USB ports and a Power Connector.

As some of you know, the folks at DragonSteelMods have a playful side and enjoy our radio controlled toys.  Luckily the folks at Interactive Toy Concepts were in the house showing off their Micro Mosquito and i-Fly VAMP Ornithopter.   I was able to see these neat devices flying over the far corner of the Metropolitan Pavilion.

An Ornithopter differs from all man-made flying devices in that it flaps its wings to propel itself through the air.  This is a form of flight that most resembles the natural abilities of birds.  The i-Fly VAMP is styled to resemble a fantasy-inspired bat.  At 12 in width and 10 in length it is the worlds smallest radio-controlled ornithopter in the form of a bat.  The flapping wings mimic the behavior of a bird or an insect, giving the eerie illusion that the toy is alive when it is in flight.  In addition, the ability to control the i-Fly VAMP  through the use of a digital proportional radio controller gives the illusion that the VAMP flies along an intelligent path.  The glowing eyes of the i-Fly VAMP add to its mystique as a supernatural nocturnal creature.

Energizer has a great reputation from their batteries and today they are showing off a godsend for the traveler who cant live without their iPod

The EnergiToGo iPod is a dock charging device that uses Energizer Lithium batteries to charge and power for fourth and fifth generation iPods and iPod nanos.  The battery life for music playback is 46 hours with an iPod Nano and 32 hours with the iPod Video.

The EnergiToGo line also features a cell phone line with various charging tips from phone brands such as Blackberry, Motorola, Palm and Nokia.

Sonos was featuring its bundled digital music player, the Sonos Bundle 130.  The New Sonos Bundle 130 allows music lovers to wirelessly play and control music in two rooms of the house.  Besides the ability to play your entire digital music library, Sonos has partnered with audio services like Audible.com, eMusic, MTV Networks URGE,Napster, Pandora, Rhapsody, Wal-Mart, Yahoo! Music Unlimited, the Zune Marketplace, and more.

Once again, Sanyo was present with its line of Xacti Digital Cameras and their featured item was the Xacti HD1000, the worlds smallest and lightest full HD digital camcorder. The Xacti HD1000 records video in Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) and also takes 4-megapixel digital still images. The HD1000 utilizes the advanced MPEG-4 AVC/H.246 video format and features a 10x optical HD lens and a large 2.7-inch widescreen display.
They were displaying a music video shot entirely with seven of these Xacti HD1000 cameras running through AppleTV and boy did the images look phenomenal.

One of the final stops at the show was by the Texas Instruments DLP booth.  They featured their TI DLP Technology which enables 3-D TV viewing in the home.   Wearing special 3D glasses and hooking the TV to a compatible PC, you can game in 3D.  They had Madden08 demoed.

The item that excited me the most was the LG Electronics new HS101 projector measuring six inches wide, less than 5 inches deep and 2 inches tall. Weighing in at approximately a pound and a half, this is the ultimate theater in the go.  This was one of the DLP Pocket Projector models that will be coming out in the near future

They also had the Optoma DV 11 which features a DVD player, sound system and projector all in one integrated system.  This system can project up to 12 feet of razor sharp images.  It is also compatible with HDTV, video games and digital camera signals.

That wraps up DragonSteelMods coverage of Pepcoms Holiday Spectacular Event.
