Have you ever come across a product and thought – that’s a simple idea, why didn’t I think of it? Todays review item falls into this category. The flipSYNC is a USB 2.0 charge and sync cable for the iPod and iPhone. What differentiates it from other cables is that you can attach it to your keychain making it easily available and nearly always on your person.

If you have ever owned an iPod or iPhone there has been a point in time where you needed a charge cable and did not have one readily on hand. The flipSYNC helps remedy this probably in a small portable package.

A Better Look at Things:

The flipSYNC arrives in a cardboard box with the device pictured on the front end a clear plastic window on the back that displays the device. Inside the package we find the flipSYNC and an instruction booklet.

The flipSYNC is available in black and looks like a modern car key or car alarm remote in terms of shape and size. There is a large opening on one side of the flipSYNC for attaching the device to your key ring. It is composed of black plastic.

There is a USB connector at one end of the device and an iPod/iPhone connector at the other. The two ends retract off the main body with a small four inch length of cable in between.

Installation, Testing and Comparison:

The flipSYNC is simple to use; it involves pulling out the end with the iPod/iPhone dock connector first then pulling off the USB connector. Scosche numbered these ends 1 and 2 to help you remember the release order.

The short run of cable allows the cable to be pulled to either connector side. At this point you can connect your iPod/iPhone to the flipSYNC and charge or sync from your PC.

Once you’re done with the flipSYNC you can reverse the extension process and transform the cable back into its portable configuration.

I tested the iPhone 4 with the flipSYNC and found it worked perfectly when powering off my MacBook Pro. Since it is a USB 2.0 it allows fast data transfers as well.

There is no information whether the flipSYNC works with the iPhone/iPod AC connector so I would refrain from using it with anything other than a PC USB port.

It never hurts to have an iPod/iPhone cable handy if you are an Apple device user and the flipSYNC is a great way to have a portable one always near by. I know my flipSYNC will be attached to my keys for a long time.
