There are so many types of memory cards out there, sometimes you’ll end up with a few lying around extra. This can happen if you get a new camera or other device that uses a different kind of card than you already own. Today for review I have a little gadget from USBGeek that can help with that problem, it takes SD and MMC cards and converts them to a Compact Flash Type II card. You now have the ability to add more storage to your device that uses the CF II storage system just by using an SD or MMC card…

The adapter comes in a tiny little generic box with some handy information on the back, it lists types and sizes of cards with their approximate capacities. The box itself appears to be used for all of this brand of cards so it’s not specific to this product. Inside the box we find the adapter and a warranty card, that’s it.
The adapter itself is obviously the size of a Compact Flash Type II card, it is made of metal and plastic and feel very sturdy so your data should be well protected. You can see the slot for the SD/MMC cards is on the side of the adapter.
That’s about it.. not much to really look at…
Installation, Testing and Comparison

Installation is extremely easy, just slide your SD/MMC card in and youre ready to go.
For testing I used SiSoftware Sandra XI, the Removable Storage Benchmark test. In the graph below you’ll find several cards that I tested including SD, microsd and CF cards for comparison.
I tested the adapter with two cards, a regular PNY 256Mb SD card and an ATP 256Mb Microsd card (with adapter). You’ll see in the graph score for the cards as well for comparison.
You can see there is a slight performance hit when you use the adapter with your SD cards, I expected there would be, but it’s not to bad of a hit to be noticeable in real life. The slight performance hit makes up for itself by having the ability to use that card for extra storage when needed, at least that’s how I look at it…
Summary:
Overall it’s a great useful gadget that can provide extra storage when needed. It’s portable, and seems well made to withstand lots of use.
DragonSteelMods gives the SD/MMC to CompactFlash Type II Converter a 5 out of 5 score.
