Installation, Testing and Comparison
There are no pictures of this product installed, but it was in use for about 4 months actually on a job site of mine, but it needed to be replaced with one that included USB connections. SO I do have quite a bit of knowledge about this product as I hooked it up, and used it quite often. There are really no pictures I could show you of it in action really, there’s just a few LEDs on it that light up to let you know which computer you are connected to, it doesn’t do anything else…
Originally it was bought to connect three computers together with one keyboard, mouse and monitor, I got it because it was relatively low priced and as far as I knew it would work for what we needed. Well it turns out the Point of Sale credit card processing computer (Dell Optiplex) was USB only and didn’t have any PS/2 ports at all on it. The company we got the PoS computer from didn’t mention this at all, and since it was used for a few months already, it was past the return date, so I ended up just eating the cost of it.
I did buy another KVM switch of course with USB, and it was a Trendnet brand as well since this one worked very well and I had no problems with it I figured I’d stick to the same brand.
I originally got this particular KVM switch because it had both the buttons to switch between systems and the hot key as well, the buttons actually make it much easier to switch between systems.
The systems this was installed on were PC based security systems, two computers monitoring 16 cameras each. I got the four port version of the KVM because of possible future upgrades.
I found the TK-408K worked perfectly fine for what we needed, response time was almost instantaneous when switching between systems, something I can’t say for the replacement USB version though…
I found it recognized both the keyboard and mouse with no problems and I was able to get the systems up and running in just a few minutes actually.
