Tritton AX Micro TRI-BH200 Bluetooth Headset Review

Tritton AX Micro TRI-BH200 Bluetooth Headset Review

Cellphones have become an integral part
of our lives, almost everyone has one from the young to the old, and
they can sometimes cause problems for people, specifically those
driving while talking. Certain states have laws now that require a
hands-free headset, with more following, soon talking while driving
will be limited to hands-free only everywhere. Me personally I like
the idea, I hate talking while I’m driving but sometimes I just have
to, most of the time while driving I choose to let the call go to
voicemail, but if I do answer it is through a hands-free device. I
think these laws are great, I drive in morning rush-hour traffic
everyday, I’ve had quite a few close encounters with drivers that are
too busy talking on their phones and not paying attention, and it
just irks me really that they feel so important, who are you talking
to at 7am that is so important to risk the lives of my family for?
I’ve watched women applying makeup and talking on the cellphone at
the same time, I’m wondering where the third arm is that they’re
using to steer their car with?! It just really annoys me to no end at
times the people that use phones while driving, driving behind some
moron who’s swerving all over the road, only to find out as I pass
that he’s either dialing his phone or texting someone.. it’s amazing
that people risk their lives and the lives of others over a phone
call…

Today for review I’ve got the AX Micro
Bluetooth Headset from
Tritton,
and it’s a very interesting headset, unlike any I’ve ever seen. The
majority of BT Headsets out there today have a rubber loop that goes
over your ear, I personally do not care for these types as I’ve found
they can be uncomfortable for long periods of use, but the Tritton AX
Micro uses no such system to secure the headset to your ear, it
actually goes in your ear and has rubber ‘fingers’ that push against
the inside of your outer ear to hold the AX Micro in place. At first
I was skeptical of this system but in my time with the AX Micro I’ve
found it works very well and it is very comfortable to wear for long
periods of time. The battery life is very good as is the overall
sound quality…

A
Better Look at Things:

The Tritton AX Micro comes in a
small box with a window that allows you to see the headset, there’s
also a few pictures and information on all sides of the box as well.

Opening the box we find another
plastic box with the contents stored in it. Included with the AX
Micro is a user manual, charging cradle, AC adapter, second ear pad,
two lanyards (one short, one long) and a clip for the lanyards. The
clip attaches to the AX Micro itself to hold it while you’re not
using it.

The AX Micro itself is very small,
not as wide as a quarter and a bit bigger. The Tritton logo is on the
front, and under it is an LED that flashes blue and red to indicate
charging and/or in use. There are three buttons on the headset, one
on the front about the logo, and one on each side. The button on the
front is the multi-function button, for power, pairing, making and
receiving calls, while the buttons on the sides are for volume up and
down. On the back or bottom is an identifying label and the charger
contacts.

{mospagebreak title=Installation and Testing}

Installation and Testing:

Installation is easy, just stick
it in your ear basically… you need to angle it to touch the back of
your ear first and then into the inner ear and that’s it, it only
takes one or two tries to put it on. Sorry no pics of me wearing the
AX Micro…

When the AX Micro is in or on your
ear it feels as though it might fall out actually, but it really is
secure, the first couple days of use I was worried about it falling
out but it never did.

The AX Micro is very comfortable
to wear for long periods, after a while you don’t even really notice
it is there. With the over the ear type of headsets, after a while I
noticed the loop starts to bother me and I end up taking it off until
I make or get a call, but with the AX Micro I can just leave it in
all the time.

It does come with two sizes of ear
pads, the only difference is the length of the fingers so the AX
Micro can fit most everyones ear size. Switching the ear pads is easy
as it just fits over the ear piece.

Charging the AX Micro is easy as
well, just set it into the cradle and the LED will turn red to
indicate charging, then turn blue when charging is complete, takes
about three hours to charge when the battery is completely dead. I
found that I easily got the rated time from the battery, actually it
seemed I got a bit more really.

One thing to note is that you can
charge the AX Micro with a USB cable, the cradle has a standard
mini-USB jack in it, but unfortunately Tritton does not include the
required USB cable. Most people with many devices should have this
cables floating around, or they can be bought cheaply online many
places, but it still would have been nice had one been included in
the box.

I’m using the AX Micro with my
AT&T Tilt cellphone and it works great, after pairing it one time
I never had to pair it again, just turn Bluetooth on, and turn the AX
Micro on an in a second or two the headset will beep to indicate it’s
ready to go.

Range seems to be as indicated,
about 10 meters or about 33 feet when nothing is between you and the
phone, of course when you are in a building or else where the range
gets more limited with walls, wiring etc. For the most part though, I
don’t know many people that will be walking 30+ feet from their
phones anyway while inside of a building…

Call clarity is fairly clear, I
found that it really depends on the other persons phone and carrier.
Calls from and to landlines were nice and clear, and calls to most
carriers were clear as well. Everyone said they heard me fine even
when I spoke softly so the microphone works well.

A few times while at the park with
my children I got and made a few calls, I found that the AX Micro
does not like wind, not only could I hear the wind loudly in my ears,
but the people I was calling heard it as well. It wasn’t enough to
interrupt the call, but just enough to be a bit annoying and have
myself and the other party repeat things a couple times.

The wind is the only problem I
encountered with this headset, and I really don’t use it often
outside, it’s either in my car or at my desk that I’m using it so
it’s not a big deal to me. Others though who do walk and talk might
find it very annoying and might want to find a headset with a
windshield or better nocie canceling abilities.

Summary
and Comments:

For my purposes the AX Micro is an
excellent choice, it is very comfortable to wear, has along battery
life, seems well made and calls are nice and clear.

For those who talk a lot outside
the wind noise might get a bit annoying to you and the person you are
talking to though.

The included extras are a nice
touch like the lanyards and different sized ear pieces, the charging
cradle works well also, but it’s a bit disappointing that Triton did
not include a USB cable with the AX Micro as I think it could be very
handy and easier than carrying the AC adapter around with you.

Other than that I love the AX
Micro, I’ve been using it everyday for the last two weeks and will
continue to use it. It’s extremely comfortable to wear, so if you’re
like me and don’t like the rubber ear straps you might want to
consider the AX Micro from Tritton.

DragonSteelMods gives the Tritton
AX Micro BT Headset a 4.5 out of 5 score and our Editor’s Choice
Award as well.
