Power supplies come in many shapes and
sizes, and depending what you’ve got in your case, you need to find
the one that’s right for you.
Today for review I’ve got the Tuniq
Ripper 1000Watt Power Supply, this unit is large in both size and
power output, it features a 140mm silent fan for cooling and enough
connections for most any system. Tuniq even included extra connectors
as well if you should need them, along with a pack of zip ties to
help you out with cable management.

A
Better Look at Things:
The Tuniq Ripper 1000Watt PSU is a
bit larger than your standard power supplies, but that’s to be
expected where such a large wattage is concerned.
The Ripper comes packaged nicely
with power cord, screws, user manual, zip ties and even extra ‘Y’
cables in case you need more connections, the cables are nice and
long as well.
The Ripper is black in color so it
should match most cases, it’s a flat black paint job which I like so
there’s no worry about fingerprints etc marring the look of it.
There’s a 140mm silent fan for cooling, and the common honeycomb
style ventilation on the rear where the power switch is located.
There should be more than enough
connections for most systems, including high end ones.

Installation,
Testing and Comparison:
I
installed the Tuniq Ripper 1000Watt PSU in my main system for two
weeks. In my system I’ve got two 4870 video cards, along with a PhysX
card, two hard drives, and two DVD/RW/BD Drives. The CPU is an Intel
C2Q9650 on an EVGA NF680i SLI Motherboard. The CPU was being cooled
with the Cooler
Master V10 cooler that includes a TEC built-in so it draws more power than your
average CPU cooler does.
To achieve load on the Ripper I
ran two instances of Orthos Stress Prime, and Fur Rendering as well
to get load on the GPU, these were all run at the same time to insure
a nice load on the system, much more than the average user will ever
push their system actually.
I used my handy Multimeter to
measure the 12v and 5v rails during idle and load conditions.
Idle:
12v = 12.13v
5v = 5.14v
Load:
12v = 12.11v
5v = 5.12v
As expected the 12v line did drop
under load, as did the 5v line as well, this is normal and it’s not a
significant drop.
It should be noted that while
testing the 12v line did fluctuate just a very little, going from
12.10v to 12.11v, but for the majority of the testing it was at
12.11v
Ambient room temperature during my
testing was 25.2C, under load I did not notice any difference in the
volume of the fan, it sounded the same idle and while under load. It
added no extra noise to my system overall.
Summary
and Comments:
The Tuniq Ripper 1000Watt Power
Supply can provide nice and stable power to even the most power
hungry systems. It included many connections for all of your hardware
and Tuniq even threw in extra connectors for good measure. The 1400mm
fan seems to do a good job at keeping the PSU cool, and it does not
add any extra noise to your system.
DragonSteelMods gives the Tuniq
Ripper 1000Watt PSU a 4.5 out of 5 score.
Pros:
+Long cables
+Quiet
+Stable
+Low fluctuations
+Nice extras included
+Lots of connections
Cons:
-Big and heavy
I
would like to thank Tuniq for the chance to review the Ripper
1000Watt PSU and for their support of DSM.
