Yeah it’s hot out there, and it isn’t any fun sitting at a desk in this nasty heat, even if you work in air conditioning it sometimes isn’t that adequate. So along comes USBGeek with a USB power fan that is not only cute but it actually works pretty good. It’s called the USB Ducky Fan and it features a little duck that acts as it’s on/off switch and a flexible ‘palm tree’ that is the actual fan…

The USB Ducky Fan comes in a box that doesn’t have much English on it, but I assume it lists the specs and features on there. The fan itself is just wrapped in plastic for protection, not much else is needed..
The USB Ducky Fan is essentially a one piece deal, it resembles a little island with a palm tree fan, and a ducky with a baseball cap on.
The Ducky acts as the on/off switch, which we can see once the Ducky is removed, it just slides back and forth.
The palm trees leaves are the blades of the fan, they are actually a soft spongy material making them very safe for everyone.
The motor is at the top of the palm tree and can rotate a bit to direct air where needed, the palm tree trunk is also segmented to allow it to bend in various ways as well.
On the bottom of the island we find a battery compartment, you can put two ‘AA’ batteries in it to power the fan if you don’t want to hook it up via USB.
Installation, Testing and Comparison
As I mentioned the trunk of the palm tree can be bent pretty much any way you need to direct air wherever you want.
As soon as I opened this my two year old son pretty much said it’s his..
He thinks it’s really cool, especially the ducky, obviously he likes ducks…
And he’s off to plug it in, yes once I showed him that it plugs into the USB port on my computer, he learned instantly what he had to do. He grabs the fan now and hops up on my lap, plugs it in and plays with it, he thinks it’s just the coolest thing. The funny thing is that he doesn’t like it to have batteries in it, he won’t use it with the batteries, he has to plug it in and use it that way….
As you can see it’s a big hit with my two year old, and honestly I think it’s rather cool as well. It does work, and it’s nice and quiet also. The fan provides a nice breeze to help keep you cool at your desk or to help circulate the air around your work space, all the while looking fairly cool while doing it.
The fan itself is very light, but yet seems very well made. My son drags it around the house quite a bit and has gotten a lot of use out of it, if it can withstand the abuse of a rambunctious two year old it should withstand pretty much anything…
Summary:
The USB Ducky Fan is surprisingly well made for it’s low price, and it really does work. It’s a cool little product that you really don’t need, but you know you really want. It’s one of those gadgets that would make a great gift for that cubicle inhabitant in your life or even for your own workspace!
And if you have kids, they’ll just love it!!
