USB Little Mice Speakers Review

Installation, Testing and Comparison

Installation is very easy on Windows XP, just plug them in and Windows recognizes and installs them automatically.

The Mice eyes and nose light up when power on, as does the LED on the in line controller.

The Little Mice are not that large but they can be pretty loud when you crank the volume up, much better than the built in speakers of my laptop. They do look pretty cool actually…

To really get the sound out of the Little Mice you need to open them up, the LED that is in the head not only lights up the eyes and nose but shines onto the speaker as well and creates an interesting effect.

When open the LED is fairly bright, but in the dark it can actually be used as a light, having one on both sides actually provides enough light to help you see the keyboard.

Here are a couple shots in the dark of the Little Mice closed and open.

Well since these are speakers I can’t run any tests on them, I can only let you know what they sound like, and they sound pretty good for the price. If you crank the volume up they can get very loud, but on the downside the bass will get distorted, the Little Mice can’t handle heavy base. So when you turn them up you’ll need to adjust the EQ of the program you are using if possible, or you could just always leave it at a the right level so you won’t have to keep changing it. If you are a person that like heavy base, these might not be for you, but for the price the sound quality is very good actually. The highs are nice and crisp, and we already know that there is no deep base.

I played a couple different songs with WinAmp, to see how they handled various types of music, some Techno, Industrial, Metal, Country and a little Rock, all sounded very clear and 100 times better than the stock speakers. I popped a movie in and tried that as well, there was a big difference over the stock speakers, even at the highest volume the stock speakers can be drowned out by background noise, but not he Little Mice, they get nice and loud. Not long ago I reviewed the Brand USB Radio and I used that for the testing as well, nice and clear.

Like I mentioned the only drawback is the lack of deep base, but to me that doesn’t matter to much, the base that the Little Mice provide is fine for everything I played through them, after all they are only powered by the USB port on your computer, so they are not going to vibrate you or your computer, they are only three Watts after all.

The Little Mice USB speakers are very well made and will survive transporting to and from places, the built in speaker protection is a nice addition. The speakers can be used with the lids open or closed, but obviously when open they are louder. The in line controls are responsive and it’s much easier to use than having to hit the Function key and the Volume up or Down key on my laptop, yes some laptops do have a dedicated volume controller built in, but most don’t.

I used the Little Mice with my laptop but they can be used with a desktop computer as well. These would make a great gift for someone who needs a nice and interesting set of speakers for their computer.
