A Better Look at Things
:
The packaging is actually in two parts, first the box. Plain white box basically with the Xpad logo on it.
Inside the box we find the retail packaging, it is essentially the hanger style display packaging, with cardboard info tag on top and the Xpad in a plastic bag underneath it.
The Xpad is an interesting laptop pad, there are no fans to keep your laptop cool, it is essentially passive cooling for your laptop.
Each of the four corners are raised to allow airflow beneath your laptop and then topped with a non-slip rubber pad.

Continued:
The bottom of the Xpad, that would rest on your lap or legs, is a padded fabric material. The Xpad logo and website are found there as well.
The pad is fitted into the Xpad , under the pad is insulation, according to the specs there are three layers of insulation.
The pad is a textured, possibly nylon material that is rough but yet soft to the touch.
When I first saw these I was very curious as to just what they were made of and how they worked. I originally thought the Xpad was made of metal but when I received it I found that it was actually plastic, making it weigh much less, and making it much more portable. So the Xpad is very light and appears to be well made, it looks heavier than it is, and it also looks pretty cool as well.

Installation, Testing and Comparison
Well installation is very easy, stick you laptop on it and go, very easy to install and use, no plugs, no noise. My laptop is a Dell Latitude C640.
The corners of the Xpad do raise your laptop up quite a bit to allow decent airflow under it.
I was a bit worried about the fan on my laptop, one of the fan is located on the bottom corner, and I thought the Xpad might interfere or block it but I found that not to be the case, there was more than enough space beneath the laptop to allow the fan to function properly.
For testing, I just let my laptop site at idle and then ran Prime95 on it to see what the differences might be between using the Xpad and not using it. I found that there was no difference in the temperature of my laptop at all, the temperature was exactly the same when using the Xpad and not. So this means that the Xpad does not obstruct airflow under my laptop to the fans, the temperature remained the same with and without the Xpad.
The Xpad does very well at keeping your laptop in place, the rubber non-slip top works very well at most any angle. You can easily sit with your laptop on your lap and feel no heat from it, it makes using your laptop much more comfortable and user friendly, especially for guys… The padded base actually stays in place as well on your lap, it makes for a nice soft pad for your legs while using the laptop.
Summary:
The Xpad does as advertised, it keeps your laptop and your lap cool. It is small, light and portable, and very comfortable to use. The Xpad makes your laptop and actual laptop, most people I know don’t actually use their laptops on their lap for an extended period of time because of the heat, but the Xpad allows you to keep it on your lap without feeling the uncomfortable heat emitted from your laptop. I really couldn’t find anything wrong with the Xpad, and I actually enjoy using it, it’s a cool little product that I can recommend to anyone who owns a laptop.
DragonSteelMods gives the Xpad a 5 out of 5 score and our Recommended Award as well.

-Very comfortable to use
-Works as advertised

-none
